Kodak intros 720p-capable pocket video camera

Kodak intros 720p-capable pocket video camera

Kodak launched a slew of new devices that start with the company’s first-ever pocket video camera. The Zi6 can capture widescreen 720p, even at 60 frames per second (twice that of normal video). It also has more headroom than the built-in flash of rivals and uses SDHC cards to store up to 32GB of footage. In keeping with the philosophy of most pocket cameras, Kodak’s entry is designed to attach directly through a flip-out USB cable and will upload YouTube-ready video directly from the camera; Arcsoft video editing software is also bundled with the Zi6 for those who want more control but don’t have software of their own. Pre-supplied cables let users preview the raw video at full resolution from an HDTV.

Kodak powers the Zi6 through disposable batteries and plans to ship the camera in late September for $180 in black and pink colors.

The 10-megapixel Z1015 IS replaces the earlier Z1012 IS ultra-zoom with an even longer 15X optical zoom and switches from including stabilization in the optics to sensor-shift. It’s also faster at just 0.22 seconds between a shutter press and a captured shot, Kodak says. The camera records video at up to 720p and will be ready in September for $350. The American camera company’s point-and-shoot contribution is the M1093 IS. The smaller camera also shoots at 10 megapixels with sensor-shift stabilization but uses a shorter 3X zoom due to the thinner body. Kodak nonetheless promises an unusually high light sensitivity for a compact at ISO 3,200 and provides both dynamic scene adjustment based on the environment as well as face detection. The M1093 IS appears at the same time as the Z1015 IS but sells for $200.

Kodak Olympics M2008 digital camera

It certainly hasn’t gone to the lengths Lenovo has gone with its Olympics tie-ins, but we wouldn’t exactly expect anything more from Kodak given its past adventures in athletic cross-promotion.
Dubbed the M2008, this latest entry appears to simply be a rebranded version of the company’s M1033 compact camera, with it boasting the same 10-megapixel resolution, 3x optical zoom, 3-inch LCD, and 720p video recording features as its non-Olympic counterpart.
